Nandini Venkateswaran, MD is a fellowship-trained cataract, cornea, and refractive surgeon who is a member of the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Service at Massachusetts Eye and Ear. She earned her medical degree with a distinction in community health from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. She completed her Ophthalmology residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute/University of Miami, after which she completed a prestigious fellowship in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at Duke University.
Dr. Venkateswaran strives to provide the highest level of care for all her patients. She employs her clinical and surgical expertise and research background to treat patients with a compassionate, customized, and multidisciplinary approach. Dr. Venkateswaran specializes in complex cataract surgery, all-laser femtosecond laser-assisted refractive cataract surgery with use of intra-operative aberrometry, implantation of trifocal, extended depth of focus and astigmatism correcting intraocular lenses, laser refractive surgery (LASIK and PRK), most advanced techniques in corneal transplantation, including DMEK (Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty), DSAEK (Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty), DALK (Deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty), and PK (Penetrating keratoplasty), corneal cross-linking and intacs (intrastromal corneal ring segments) for keratoconus and post-refractive ectasia, anterior segment reconstruction (secondary intraocular lens implantation, intraocular lens exchange, iris repair), dry eye disease and use of cutting-edge therapies such as Lipiflow and Tear Care for the treatment of meibomian gland dysfunction and diagnosis and treatment of corneal dystrophies, pterygia, and ocular surface tumors
Dr. Venkateswaran is an active member of the Refractive Surgery Alliance, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology and currently serves on several committees in several of these organizations. She has co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and several book chapters early in her career. She has received several awards for her excellence in research and clinical care and has presented her scientific work at numerous national and international meetings.
