Omid Kermani, MD Kermani was Born in Erlangen, Germany in 1960. He is married and has four children, two boys and two girls. The Kermani family lives in Köln, Germany. Dr. Kermani studied medicine in Germany and in New Zealand. He received his ophthalmologic education at the university hospitals in Bonn (1987 -1991with Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. M.U. Dardenne) and in Köln (1991 – 1993 with Prof. Dr. K. Heimann). He is co-founder, CEO and consultant for cataract and refractive surgery at the Artemis Augenklinik am Neumarkt in Cologne, Germany (FRG), where he performs more than 5.000 surgical procedures every year.
As a scientific fellow, Dr. Kermani was first in touch with Excimer Laser technology in 1987. Since then, he has contributed numerous publications with high impact in the field of laser application in ophthalmology. He is funded and supported by the Deutsche Forschungs Gemeinschaft (DFG). As a medical consultant to the German Ministry of Research and Education (BMBF) he was in charge of “Femtonik” projects evolving new femtosecond laser technologies for ophthalmic application. Since 1993 Dr. Kermani has organized 30 annual national eye surgery symposia in Cologne, known as “Kölner Adventssymposium” including numerous “live-surgery” events. He has presented over 250 academic papers and publications in the past 30 years.
Dr. Kermani is a consultant and medical advisor to national and international eye care companies and organizations, and he is a Co-Founder and Trustee of the World College Of Refractive Surgery & Visual Sciences (WCRS&VS).
