Keri F Allen, MD, is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist at Mariana’s Eye Institute in Saipan, Commonwealth Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). She is the only ophthalmologist serving the entire adult and pediatric population of 57,000 people.
Dr. Allen manages a wide variety of complex eye pathology including diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, uveitis, and performs pterygium, glaucoma, general oculoplastic, as well as cataract surgeries. She is enthusiastic about incorporating new research and resources to provide optimum care for the population she serves. As a result, she is integrating treatment interventions such as premium lenses, toric lenses, and limbal relaxing incisions, as the beginning phase of cataract refractive surgery options. Her aim is to expand refractive surgery services in her remote location of the CNMI.
Dr. Allen is a graduate of the University of Rochester School of Medicine with a distinction in community service. Following her internship year at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown NY, Dr. Allen pursued a research fellowship in glaucoma genetics at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. She completed her ophthalmology residency training at the University of South Carolina, followed by a 1-year Global Ophthalmology Fogarty Clinical Fellowship through Emory University and the NIH.
Dr. Allen is motivated to address the full spectrum of eyecare needs and continues to conduct high-impact global research. She passionately works on projects that enhance ophthalmic training for international residents. Her compassionate care can be seen through ongoing patient education and her attention to the individual patient’s holistic needs. When not eliminating global blindness, Dr. Allen enjoys traveling, yoga, cycling, walking on the beach, and spending time with family.
