Alexander Shusko MD, is a uveitis fellowship-trained ophthalmologist, also providing comprehensive eye care including refractive cataract surgery. He am located in Scottsdale, Arizona at the Mayo Clinic. Dr Shusko enjoys learning about his patients’ lives and how he can help them see to better enjoy the world around them. Patients can expect an honest discussion of their goals and options for treatments when discussing their visual needs with Dr Shusko, and the answer to these needs may not always be surgical. For example, in patients with autoimmune disease, ocular surgery can be very inflammatory. Dr Shusko has a particular interest and skill set to help patients recover from eye surgery of all kinds.
Dr Shusko enjoys refractive surgery for the level of attention required to deliver the desired outcome. There is not a one-size-fits-all recipe and each treatment plan is individualized for each patient. Dr Shusko employs a continuous improvement learning model and modifies his thoughts and techniques as needed to better help his patients.
Dr Shusko is a board-certified ophthalmologist. He completed his residency at Nassau University Medical Center on Long Island, New York and then went on to complete a uveitis and ocular autoimmune disease fellowship at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. He has been with the Mayo Clinic Arizona since 2022, practicing uveitis and comprehensive ophthalmology. Dr Shusko frequently has medical students with me as he teaches them the basics of ophthalmology. He conducts research on a variety of ocular autoimmune diseases to help better characterize and understand the complexities of these diseases.
