Willy Pettersen, MD is a specialist in ophthalmology from the University of Tromsø.
Through his ophthalmology practice both at the hospital and later in his private clinical practice, Willy Pettersen constantly encountered patients struggling with various vision problems. He took an early interest in surgical techniques, which could give these patients good vision without glasses and contact lenses. In the early 90s, research into vision-correcting (refractive) surgery began to take shape.
Ophthalmologist Pettersen traveled to the USA every year and was actively present from the very first meetings about this new form of treatment. Since then, he has been a leading pioneer in the Nordics in the field of vision-correcting surgery. In 1991, he opened a practice with vision-correcting laser treatment in Norway.
In the summer of 2024, ophthalmologist Willy Pettersen founded OSLO SYN, which is a clinic for vision-correcting treatments. OSLO SYN is the only clinic in Norway that performs all recognized methods for correcting presbyopia, nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatic corneas. The treatments are done with laser (PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision, ReLEx SMILE, FemtoLASIK, and ASA ), ICL additional lens, lens exchange (RLE) for multifocal lenses, and cataract surgery. Based on the results of the preliminary medical examination, the ophthalmologist concludes and recommends the treatment that will be the best for the individual patient.
