Phillip C. Hoopes, Sr.’s lifelong passion for refractive surgery is evident from the moment you step into the state-of-the-art facilities at Hoopes Vision. Over the course of a nearly four-decade career, Dr. Hoopes has continually embraced new technology, pioneered new procedures, and participated in clinical research, all while operating one of the highest volume refractive surgery centers in the country.
In speaking to Dr. Hoopes, it is easy to understand what drives him to remain at the forefront of innovation in his field, even after all these years. In his own words, “Vision correction surgery is a field where the technology is constantly advancing, and our commitment is to advance with it. We can’t – and won’t – rest on our laurels. Our patients expect, and we owe it to them, to always offer the newest, safest, most effective procedures available.” Hoopes Vision’s flagship facility in Draper, Utah is the culmination of that commitment, with its on-site clinical research center, huge array of laser vision correction technology, and the first surgery center in the world to feature multiple cataract laser systems.
Dr. Hoopes was one of the first laser eye surgeons in the United States. He is a Utah native and graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He completed his eye surgery training at the prestigious University of Iowa Eye Center, then received additional fellowship training in cataract, implant, and laser surgery in Savannah, Georgia. More recently, in June 2007, Dr. Hoopes received his Executive MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Dr. Hoopes and his wife, Marilyn, are parents to five sons and three daughters.
