Sloan W. Rush, MD is the very first cornea and refractive surgery fellowship-trained specialist in the Texas Panhandle region. He graduated medical school from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX followed by residency training at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, TX and then fellowship training at Casey Eye Institute in Portland, Oregon. He and his father, Dr. J. Avery Rush, provide a two surgeon team that is actively involved in the care of all of their refractive surgery patients. Being the only refractive surgery center in Amarillo, TX (and within a 120-mile radius of Amarillo), Rush Eye Associates has been well-known to deliver high quality and personalized care to all patients that desire independence from glasses and contact lenses.
Dr. Rush is actively involved in many research projects. Having published over two dozen clinical studies before age 35, he continues to strive to discover innovative techniques and new technology that will help improve patient outcomes. Of particular interest, he is currently studying topical stem cell therapy for corneal regeneration and the treatment of dry eye disease.
Beyond providing topnotch refractive surgery care, Dr. Rush carries such a huge passion for the practice of ophthalmology. He has been very fortunate to be able to provide ophthalmic surgery care for underprivileged patients all over Latin America with various Christian charitable organizations.
