Hailing from the Philippines, Dr. Jason Alvarez, MD moved to the United States in 2007 to pursue his higher education. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of North Florida. Dr. Alvarez then earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University, where he served as President of the Ophthalmology Interest Group. During medical school, Dr. Alvarez conducted a year of ophthalmology research at the National Institutes of Health through the Medical Research Scholars Program and presented his work at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
Dr. Alvarez went on to complete his medical internship at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and his ophthalmology residency at the Krieger Eye Institute, where he served as chief resident. During his final year of training, he independently completed the Refractive Surgery Alliance Resident Refractive Surgery course, and devoted the majority of his elective time training with Sonny Goel, MD, one of the most prominent refractive surgeons in Maryland.
Dr. Alvarez joined Beach Eye Care in 2021 and quickly became a busy comprehensive ophthalmologist and cataract and refractive surgeon. During his first year in practice, he not only passed his board certification but he also completed the Forefront Refractive Surgery course from the world renowned London Vision Clinic. Under the tutelage of Dr. Neatrour, he started performing refractive surgery shortly thereafter and has now had numerous happy patients including some of Beach Eye Care’s very own staff. Dr. Alvarez now offers all three corneal refractive modalities including PRK, LASIK, and SMILE.
Dr. Alvarez is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and his professional memberships include the Refractive Surgery Alliance, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
