Giovanni A. Campagna, MD was born in Iowa City, Iowa during his father’s ophthalmology training, but he grew up in San Antonio, Texas. He studied biomedical engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, and it was there that his interest in medicine was curated by the innovative and technological matter of his undergraduate studies. He attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, where he developed an enthusiasm for ophthalmology under the guidance of many energetic and passionate young faculty members. He has had the distinct fortune of pursuing residency training at UCLA, after which he will be an advanced anterior segment surgery and glaucoma fellow at Washington University in St. Louis from 2023-2024. Upon completion of his fellowship training, he intends to return home to Texas and practice comprehensive ophthalmology.
Dr. Campagna is known by his peers as a driven and focused physician who sets and maintains high expectations for himself in all aspects of the ophthalmic profession, including patient care, surgical outcomes, and continuing education. His attention to detail and cautious yet optimistic approach helps him deliver at the highest level for his patients. Dr. Campagna takes great pride in his journey to develop a mastery of the knowledge and skills necessary in order to help his patients with many diseases of the anterior segment including, but not limited to, refractive error, ocular surface disease, cataracts, prior surgical complications and sequelae of trauma, and glaucoma.
On a personal note, Dr. Campagna has been married to his wife Angela since 2019. They enjoy cooking, watching movies, and spending time with their rescue cattle dog Becker.
