Lorenzo Cervantes, MD

Lorenzo Cervantes, MD is a board-certified ophthalmologist and a fellowship-trained specialist in cornea and refractive surgery. He practices in Shelton, Connecticut, which is centrally located to Fairfield, New Haven, and Litchfield counties and dedicates his work to help patients see the best they can to help them meet their lifestyle goals.

Patients can expect personalized care from Dr. Cervantes and his staff, who are involved in their care journey from beginning to end. At the initial consultation, Dr. Cervantes gets to understand patients’ goals, address any concerns, and provide options that patients can feel comfortable with. These options include LASIK, PRK, topography guided treatments, EVO ICL, refractive lens exchange, and refractive cataract surgery. Once a treatment plan has been decided, Dr. Cervantes and his staff walk with you every step of the way.

Having had LASIK himself, Dr. Cervantes understands the impact surgery like this can have. “When I was in training, I didn’t understand why someone wouldn’t just want to wear glasses or contact lenses rather than subject their eyes to surgery. It wasn’t until I learned how to do LASIK that I understood. My mentor’s patients were literally in tears of joy after their surgeries. They had been restricted from enjoying some of the simple things in life. Afterwards, they were free to enjoy and see the world as they wanted to. It motivated me to have my own eyes done, and it was one of the best things someone’s done for me.”

Dr. Cervantes received his Medical Degree, cum laude, from the Downstate Medical Center – College of Medicine at the State University of New York, where he was elected a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his Residency in Ophthalmology at the North Shore/LIJ Health System in New York, where he also served as Chief Resident. He completed a fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at the Eye and Ear Institute of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Cervantes is a Fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the Connecticut Society of Eye Physicians, the New England Ophthalmological Society, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, the Cornea Society, the Paton Society, and the Eye Bank Association of America. He currently serves on the Board of Directors and on the Medical Advisory Committee of Eversight, a global leader in the field of eye banking and one of the largest networks of eye banks in the world. He regularly teaches other surgeons advanced techniques in cornea transplantation, anterior segment reconstruction, cataract and refractive surgery. On the subject of cornea, he has authored several textbook chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles and has lectured both at national and international meetings.
