Peter S. Hersh, MD

Peter S. Hersh, MD graduated from Princeton University and received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Harvard Medical School, where afterward he served as Chief Resident and Cornea Fellow and remained on the full-time faculty for several years.

In 1995, Dr. Hersh founded The Cornea and Laser Eye Institute – Hersh Vision Group in New Jersey. In addition, he is a Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology and Director of Cornea and Refractive Surgery at Rutgers Medical School, Visiting Research Collaborator at Princeton University, and Team Ophthalmologist for the NY Jets.

Dr. Hersh has written over 100 peer-reviewed research publications and four textbooks. He was the lead author of the clinical study that led to first FDA approval of laser vision correction for the treatment of nearsightedness in the United States. Notably, he led the clinical trials of corneal crosslinking for keratoconus and corneal ectasia as the medical monitor and lead author of the studies for U.S. FDA approval.

Dr. Hersh has been awarded the Senior Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, is a fellow of the American Ophthalmological Society, and has been selected for Best Doctors in America for over 10 years running.
