Rebecca Kuennen, MD is an Associate Professor, Department of Ophthalmology at OSU Havener Eye Institute. She is an expert in cornea and external diseases, cataract and refractive surgery, and other eye conditions. She is the director of Cornea and External Disease, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a co-investigator, in various national and multi-departmental clinical trials.
“I’ve always wanted a career where I could help people. What makes me happy in life is when I can help someone in need. Providing a medical or surgical therapy can truly change a patient’s quality of life. When people tell me how grateful they are for my care, it makes me feel good about what I do. I also enjoy educating medical students and resident physicians.”
In addition to ophthalmology work at Ohio State, Dr. Kuennen participates in medical mission trips to Nicaragua and Ghana with Ohio State colleagues performing vision screenings, corneal transplants, cataract surgery and other treatments for children and adults in these underserved countries. “It’s always a rewarding experience. The people there are so appreciative. I love knowing I’ve helped change someone’s life.”
