Erica Liu, MD grew up in the Bay Area and graduated with honors and a double major in Neurobiology and Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. She took an enlightening detour to work at Google in email marketing before deciding that medical school indeed was the right choice for her. Dr. Liu completed her medical training at the University of California, Irvine followed by an Ophthalmic Pathology and Research fellowship at the University of Utah, Moran Eye Center. Dr. Liu then went further east to complete her residency in Ophthalmology at Tufts Medical Center.
Knowing she was a Californian at heart, Dr. Liu returned to the west coast to pursue an intensive clinical and surgical fellowship in Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery at the Shiley Eye Institute at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Liu has also acquired extensive trauma experience at the University of New Mexico Hospitals along with cutting-edge Refractive Surgery training at the Navy Refractive Surgery Center, San Diego.
Throughout her undergraduate and post-graduate training, Dr. Liu has continued to be passionate about providing care for the under-served, advocating for patient rights and access to care. She has written multiple book chapters and published on advanced intraocular lens technologies and case reports in the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, American Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports, and the Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Having had photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) surgery to correct her own vision over a decade ago, Dr. Liu is thrilled to be able to provide the same gift of hassle-free clear vision to others. When not working, Dr. Liu enjoys any sport involving a board, traveling, and eating!
