Matthew McCauley, MD, FACS

Matthew B. McCauley, MD, FACS, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained cornea, cataract, and refractive surgeon, practicing in The Woodlands, Texas. Originally raised in Colorado, he headed south to Baylor University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology. After being awarded a military Health Professions Scholarship from the U.S. Army, he returned home to attend the University of Colorado School of Medicine. His ophthalmology training was completed at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium, Brooke Army Medical Center, Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX, and Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center, Lackland AFB, TX. He received his cornea and refractive surgery fellowship training at Price Vision Group, Indianapolis, Indiana. In total, Dr. McCauley spent 12 years in the army serving around the world from Asia to Europe.

Dr. McCauley has tremendous experience performing cataract, laser cataract, presbyopia-correction, LASIK, PRK, ICL, endothelial corneal transplants (DSAEK and DMEK), and numerous other refractive surgical procedures to restore vision. He was honored with the Best Surgical Teaching Award when he was Director of Clinical Operations, Chief of Comprehensive Ophthalmology, and residency faculty at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio. He has also been a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He has received other numerous honors and recognitions including the H. Michael Lambert Outstanding Chief Resident Award, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement and Commendation Medals, academic excellence, and outstanding merit honors.

During his years in the military, Dr. McCauley was honored to care for the many active duty members and retirees who gave their lives to serve our great country. One of his primary roles was to prepare soldiers for deployment by treating them with LASIK and PRK to eliminate their dependence on glasses and contact lenses, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He has received numerous research awards and has had many articles published in various Ophthalmology journals. Dr. McCauley is a market leader and at the forefront of technology and innovative care for his patients.

Dr. McCauley pursued the field of Ophthalmology due to the ever-changing technological advances it offers, as well as the opportunity to make a real tangible, significant difference in the lives of patients in such a short amount of time. He feels that this field is truly unique and he thoroughly enjoys working with each individual patient, as if they were family, to determine together which surgical option best matches his or her visual needs and desires. Dr. McCauley has also dedicated much of his time to missions and he is the past president of the Christian Ophthalmology Society which is an international nonprofit which has a strong emphasis on missions and care for the underserved.
