Michael B. Merkley, MD

Michael B. Merkley, MD is a board-certified Ophthalmologist who specializes in corneal refractive surgery and refractive cataract surgery. He practices at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base and is proud to serve the nation’s military, retirees, and their families.

Dr. Merkley is passionate about reducing patients’ dependence on glasses and contact lenses. His goal is to treat every patient as if they are family and treat their eyes as if they were going to be flying a fighter jet. He has personally had LASIK.

Dr. Merkley completed a General Surgery Internship followed by an Ophthalmology Residency at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium where he served as chief resident. He then remained as teaching staff at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgery Center, prior to relocating to his current practice. He continues to teach as
faculty at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and the University of California, Davis. He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

In his free time, Dr. Merkley enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. They love hiking, biking, skiing, and traveling.
