Jay Meyer, MD, MPH is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist practicing in Auckland, New Zealand/Aotearoa. After completing his registrar training in ophthalmology, he received further subspecialty training fellowships in Corneal and Refractive Surgery and Glaucoma. An interest and previous training in public health led him to also pursue a further year as a research fellow in international ophthalmology through the Fred Hollows Foundation NZ to improve outcomes at the Pacific Eye Institute in Suva, Fiji.
Dr. Meyer’s time is currently divided between clinical practice, research, and teaching. He is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Auckland. He has a clinical practice at Te Whatu Ora, Te Toka Tumai Auckland, where he sees patients and also teaches medical students, optometry students, nurses, residents, and fellows. He also has a private practice at the Eye Institute where he also performs refractive surgery. He is active in research and has contributed to over 65 peer-reviewed research publications. His areas of research include the evaluation of surgical techniques, corneal imaging, keratoconus, refractive surgery outcomes, and the effects of systemic medical conditions on the eye. He has a keen attention to detail and has learned to channel this obsession to achieve the best possible outcomes for his patients.
