Daniel Getaneh Mulatu, MD, FICO, FCOphth (ECSA) is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and head of the ophthalmology unit at Wolaita Sodo University teaching and referral hospital, southern Ethiopia. He earned his MD degree in Medicine from Mekelle University in 2012 and completed his ophthalmology residency training at Addis Ababa University in 2017. Since 2018 he serving at Wolaita Sodo Univveristy with the rank of Assistant professor of ophthalmology.
As the only ophthalmologist in Wolaita zone with catchment area of more than 4 million people, Dr Mulatu’s area of practice mainly involves cataract surgeries (both adult and pediatrics), glaucoma surgeries, oculoplastic surgeries and emergency surgical interventions. He has also active engagement in most of Himalayan cataract project (HCP’s) high-volume high-quality cataract surgical campaigns in Southern Ethiopia.
Apart from clinical practice, Dr Mulatu also engaged in teaching medical students. Dr. Mulatu is fellow of the international council of ophthalmology (FICO) and fellow of the college of ophthalmologists of the eastern, central and southern Africa (FCOphth (ECSA)).
Dr Mulatu is interested and deeply committed to pursue his future career in the field of refractive surgery, which will be the first area of expertise in Ethiopia and in most African countries.
