Taj Nasser, MD

Taj Nasser, MD hails from a small village in Yemen and comes from humble beginnings, born to parents who didn’t have the luxury to complete even elementary education. He is grateful to have lived the American dream and understands first-hand the struggles of living in a third-world country. He is passionate about curing unnecessary blindness worldwide by embarking on annual mission trips to perform cataract surgery for the impoverished and those in dire need. When asked about his experience thus far he states, “There is something very special about being able to be a part of liberating not only a fellow human being in need from their functional disability by curing their blindness but also their family members who have to care of them. These are patients who have been blind, some for decades, due to an extreme lack of resources and care. This is an honor and privilege for me as well as a spark, something bigger than myself, a duty to help positively change lives”

Dr Nasser attended East Carolina University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Noticing the many similarities between Spanish and his native Arabic language, he enjoyed completing a minor in Hispanic studies. He continued his training at ECU where he received his medical degree with a distinction in health system transformation and leadership. He then moved to New Orleans to complete his Ophthalmology residency where he was selected as chief resident for his medical education initiatives and leadership.

Dr. Nasser’s interest in process improvement and high-quality, patient-centered care drew him to an interest in specializing in refractive surgery. He is passionate about serving the global community, where he has participated in multiple surgical eye mission trips to Mexico. A Marvel fan, when he is not caring for patients you will see him rewatching MCU.
