Luke Rebenitsch, MD is proud to be from North Dakota. Born in Bismarck to a wonderful family, he was surrounded by family members who were farmers, ranchers, educators, and engineers. During this time, he developed a strong interest in the natural world, which would ultimately direct him toward his future career path. He was also fortunate enough to be introduced to the international community at an early age as his family hosted international students. He, himself, was also able to live, study, and work in Europe and South America, and has since had a love of traveling, culture,
and language.
After finishing high school at St. Mary’s Central, Dr. Luke had the honor to receive a full academic scholarship to study engineering at North Dakota State University and the University of North Dakota. He excelled during those years and was honored by the University’s awards in chemical engineering, mathematics, and physics. He graduated at the top of his class and decided to apply for his life-long dream of medicine.
At the behest of a family friend, Dr. Luke applied for and was accepted to Washington University in St. Louis, a medical school consistently ranked one of the top in the nation. There, he fostered many lifelong friendships, succeeded in being awarded scholarships to perform epidemiological research in Peru and to rotate at King’s College in London, the location of the first intraocular implant. It came as no surprise with his background he chose to pursue ophthalmology and ultimately specialize in refractive surgery and visual quality.
After medical school, Dr. Luke completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and subsequently the renowned refractive surgery fellowship at Dr. Durrie Vision in Kansas City. During this time, as he knew that all of modern medicine was the result of years of previous research, he researched, published and/or presented 10 papers and posters in the field of ophthalmology. He has assisted in over 20 peer reviews of refractive surgery articles, and undergone training in facial aesthetics. In addition, Dr. Luke has had refractive surgery himself and holds ASCRS and AAO memberships. He has also trained for and run five marathons during this time. Recently, Dr. Luke has just been married to Kristin Rebenitsch from Wichita, KS.
