Daniel Sand, MD is a board certified fellowship trained cornea and refractive surgeon. He completed his medical training at Case Western Reserve University where he graduated with distinction in research and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society. He completed his residency training at Los Angeles County-USC/Doheny Eye Institute where he was given multiple awards and grants to present his research at national meetings. Dr. Sand completed his fellowship in cornea, external disease and refractive surgery at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center as a Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellow. During his time in Michigan, Dr. Sand also did an eye banking fellowship in association with the Eversight Eyebank (formerly Mid-West Eyebank). Dr. Sand is continuing his involvement with the Eye Bank Association of America since his fellowship.
Dr. Sand has worked for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group. In this capacity, he has been responsible for directing the first of three referral centers for corneal cross-linking for the organization. Dr. Sand is passionate about tailoring refractive surgery to the needs of every patient.
