Krishna Shanmugam, MD (affectionately called “Dr. K” by his patients) is a board-certified, double fellowship-trained anterior segment surgeon and ophthalmologist based in Bryan/College Station, TX. A proud graduate of Texas A&M University, Dr. Shanmugam subsequently completed his MD degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Following his ophthalmology residency, he completed a glaucoma fellowship at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, followed by a cornea/refractive surgery fellowship at the University of Missouri School of Medicine.
As a founder of BCS Eye Associates, and the 1st ever fellowship trained cornea and glaucoma surgeon in the region, Dr. Shanmugam truly embraces the privilege of being able to deliver high quality surgical eye care to the patients of the Brazos Valley. He is a strong proponent of using the latest technology to achieve the highest possible visual outcomes in refractive, cataract, cornea, and glaucoma surgery. Dr. Shanmugam invests in a patient-centric and individualized approach to taking care of his patients, and sincerely devotes the time and effort to get to know each and every one of his patients.
Dr. Shanmugam also has a strong interest in international health, and previously has participated in mission trips in India to help with indigent medical and surgical care for ophthalmology patients. Back in the USA, he is passionate about medical student, resident, and fellow education, and won prior teaching awards at the University of Missouri for his surgical mentorship and dedication to teaching the future doctors of tomorrow. He contributes regularly to Meditred.com, which is a leader in ophthalmic education, surgical videos, and known for its annual Board Review Course for residents and fellows.
Dr. Shanmugam truly enjoys caring for the patients and referring providers of the Brazos Valley and the Bryan/College Station, TX region. He is married with small children, and his wife and children are the light of his life. In his spare time, he is a lifelong diehard Texas A&M football fan and a Super Championship level tennis player, and plays 4 South Indian classical musical instruments.
