Michael Shumski, MD

With his lifelong interest in technology, it was natural for Dr. Michael Shumski to start his post-secondary education by earning a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Johns Hopkins University. After working with medical robotics during his undergraduate studies, he went on to complete a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, also at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Shumski then earned his M.D. at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed his residency training in ophthalmology at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta.

While at Emory, Dr. Shumski collaborated with a design team from Georgia Tech to design an award-winning new device that aids in the crucial “capsulotomy” step in cataract surgery.

Prior to joining Magruder Laser Vision in April of 2017, Dr. Shumski performed cataract and refractive surgery in private practice in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. Like Dr. Magruder, Orlando Ophthalmologist Dr. Shumski is an advocate of continuing education and using the most advanced and proven technology to provide patients with unparalleled laser vision correction. Dr. Shumski is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Refractive Surgery Alliance, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Outside the office, Dr. Shumski enjoys sports and fitness, playing guitar and piano, and supporting the Orlando City and Pride soccer teams.
