Evan N. Wong, MBBS, FRANZCO is a fellowship-trained cornea, cataract, and refractive surgeon practicing at the Lions Eye Institute in Perth, Western Australia (WA). He is passionate about helping each patient achieve their best possible vision.
Dr. Wong completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Western Australia. During medical school, he spent some time in rural India observing cataract surgery camps. There, he witnessed, first-hand, the impact of eye surgery in a developing world setting. It was then that he decided to pursue ophthalmology.
He underwent specialist training in ophthalmology under the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in WA. He then completed a fellowship in cornea and external eye diseases with Prof Jodhbir Mehta at the Singapore National Eye Centre. During his time there, he was also a clinical research fellow with the Tissue Engineering and Cell Therapy group at the Singapore Eye Research Institute. He continues to maintain an interest in ophthalmic research and has published numerous scientific and review papers, including a book chapter on SMILE in high myopia.
Dr. Wong practices at the Lions Eye Institute in Perth, WA. He also holds an appointment at the Royal Perth Hospital as a Consultant Ophthalmologist. He enjoys swimming, jazz, and exploring the beautiful West Australian countryside with his wife and two young daughters.
